First Presidential Debate

September 29th, 2008

Greetings…

So…Did you watch the first Presidential debate between John
McCain and Barack Obama Friday night? How do you think the
candidates did?

All in all, I think it was a good debate and both candidates
handled themselves very well, with neither one hitting a
grand slam out of the ballpark unless you’re the type that
refuses to give points to the opposition of your choice, no
matter what is said or done…

If that is the case, then a debate isn’t anything you’d be
interested in and a campaign speech is probably all you’re
really looking for…

If you’re still undecided, then I don’t think making that decision
was any easier if you waited for the debate to help you out. As long
as there is a two-party system, our choices will always be more of
a “voting against”, rather than a “voting for” in more cases than
not. I’m not saying that both candidates don’t have strong support
among voters, of course they do, but talk to people who still can’t
or haven’t made up their minds and you’ll find that this is the case…

Money and politics go hand in hand and “the people” rarely seem to
win, no matter which candidate or party wins the election…

The day I believe any politician’s promises is the day that Amy
Winehouse is a spokesperson for a world-wide anti-drug campaign…

The debate was “OK”, I didn’t hear anything “new” that would
either change my mind or inspire me because quite frankly,
they can both say any and everything we want to hear to get
elected, how long will it take them to “deliver”, and more
importantly, will they even try after they are elected? McCain
did as well as predicted on foreign policy, Obama probably did
better than expected on foreign policy. On the economy, I think
they both reflected the current state of affairs in the country
and had no real answers because quite frankly, the economy is
in a MESS and posture, campaign, and spin all you want, there is
no easy answer right now and no quick fix, I don’t care which
party wins. Neither one will put food on your table, save your
jobs, or help you keep your home. Neither one will help you
send your children to college, or get all the uninsured insured…

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but they PROMISED…by the time the banks are
bailed out, the elections take place, and the new administration
settles in to do business, the promises will be a fading memory…

We teach our children that “nothing in life is free”. Why are so
many people willing to believe that the promises made by politicians,
even IF they come through, won’t come with a price?

Oh well, such is life in an election year. I’m looking forward
to the Vice-Presidential debate if for only one reason…

Comic relief…

They might want to consider hiring Tina Fey to stand in for Pallin,
at least Fey is a writer and will sound coherant, (unless she has to
BE Pallin)…

Sorry, not a Pallin fan, I don’t care if she is a woman, can dress
a Moose, and “can see Russia from her house”. Somehow, I can’t
imagine her still being the V.P. candidate come November. Who knows,
she may have “family issues” that cause her to withdraw, otherwise
known as “get the heck out of here pronto” by McCain and his advisors…

One heartbeat away from the Presidency? Frightening beyond belief…

Stop by the blogs and vote on Friday’s debate, and of course, take
potshots at me for the above statements…
