Greetings…
Since we had some serious issues the past few columns, I thought
a change of pace might be in order, not that I have anything
particularly interesting or witty to share, although I’m
a happy camper today because Flypup is coming in from Baltimore
for the weekend. Haven’t seen him in a while and even though he
will only be here two days, it’s better than nothing…
Even though he said he misses us all, something tells me that
our 75 degree weather this week is also something he misses given
the Winter he has had to endure…
Let’s see, what else? I’ll answer a question that has been asked
quite a bit the past few weeks.
“Jamie, how come you haven’t been mentioning or talking about American
Idol as much this season”?
The answer is quite simple actually…
I think this season sucks! Maybe it’s too early, or maybe it’s because
I still don’t know the contestants, or maybe it’s because I miss Paula,
but truthfully, I think the reason is…
The talent sucks compared to previous seasons. All of the hype that this
season would show us the best of any other season has fallen as flat
as the notes that have been sung. Before you start sending me emails
about this one or that one, I’ll concede there are a few that sing “OK”,
and maybe I have a few that I’m keeping an eye (or an ear) out for,
but is “OK” good enough? There really haven’t been any breakout personalities,
although Casey James has gotten plenty of attention from Kara and the
females voters because he’s adorable, but you still have to be able to
sing flawlessly…
If I had to pick one female and one male at this early stage of the
game, it would be…
Sibohan Magnus…Good voice and a quirky personality…
Lee Dewyze…Nice Bryan Adams kind of voice and…He’s from Illinois
There are probably better voices than the ones Imentioned and in fact,
I know there are, but so far, this season just isn’t doing it for me…
Ellen is doing better than I expected, but for me, the jury is still
out on her being a judge…
Simon looks like he’s just trying to get this season out of the way
and move on to his next project. Kara, who make no mistake, knows her
“stuff” and the business, sometimes borders on annoying, make that
“is” at times…
Randy is Randy and no change there…
I almost wish we could fast forward to the point where there are six
contestants left. In my mind, that’s about the amount of singers who
may be legit…
Truthfully, at this point, I can’t imagine buying any CD from any of
them. That may change, but based on the past seasons and the CD’s I
have bought from not only the winners, but runner-ups, I’m not
getting my CD player ready as of yet…
That’s a wrap folks. Have a great weekend!
