Greetings…
Well, I finally broke down and went to the doctor on Friday. It
became apparent that I wasn’t getting any better and wasn’t going
to without some medicinal intervention…
Antibiotics, a nasal spray, and Mucinex was prescribed for what
the doctor diagnosed as Sinusitis, bronchitis and allergies. He
diagnosed the allergies after giving me an allergy test. You know
the test, the one where you lie on your tummy and a masochistic
nurse pierces your skin in dozens of spots with needles loaded with
dozens of allergens…
I received a printout of everything I was tested for and the results
for each allergen. Out of roughly 150 “things”, I tested negative
for five, count’em five allergens. The range was in the mild area
and are considered nuisance allergies because the doctor said my
skin wasn’t too red and other than one area which had raised bumps
and itched like heck. He told me to take over the counter allergy
meds and unless I have any other reactions, I shouldn’t be too
concerned…
Uh-Huh, that was then. Fast forward five hours later…
My back started to feel itchy in different spots and I really
didn’t pay too much attention to it because quite frankly, I felt
so lousy with the cold and such. I started to wonder when my back
REALLY started to itch and as I touched it to scratch, I could feel
what felt like, large bumps…
I decided to go look in the mirror and saw what was causing the
itch. Over 90% of my back was covered in large, hive-like bumps
in a nice shade of fire engine red. Alrighty then, guess it was
a delayed reaction and some of the things the doc told me I was
a “little” allergic to must be a “little” worse than he thought…
I called him and his nurse told me I was definitely more allergic
than they thought and I could come in for an allergy shot or just
take some Benadryl…
Bet you can guess which option I took. If you recall, the last time
I was given an “allergy shot”, a mistake was made and I got a flu
shot instead…
The list I got were things common to Arizona and other “normal”
allergens. Cats came up and when I was told I have a mild allergy
to my poochies, I shrugged my shoulders and told them I’d rather
live on Benadryl than get rid of my babies…
There was also a good news/bad news result in the allergy test…
I’m not allergic to Casinos…
and the bad news?
I’m not allergic to the kids…
