“Bits” and “Pieces”

February 8th, 2010

Greetings…

I’m watching the Super Bowl as I type this and right now, the score
is 17-16, Colts. It’s the third quarter and by the time I finish this
the winner will be determined…

Because I’m a little preoccupied and have the attention span of a
two-year-old right now, I thought I’d give you “bits and pieces”
of “stuff” today since I also watch the commercials during the
Super Bowl. It’s about the only time I look forward to commercials
because they are usually first-run and amusing…

Quite a few good ones and the Bud Light commercials are always funny.
I have to say, I was partial to one commercial that featured my ‘85
Chicago Bears Super Bowl team doing a parody of the Super Bowl
Shuffle, complete with Coach Ditka, the punky QB, McMahon among
others…Sighhhhhhhhhhhhh those were the days…

On to another “bit”…

Flyboy is working this weekend and called me yesterday, (Saturday)
from the cockpit in between flights. Although he sometimes does
that, I always say the same thing, “Is everything OK”? He just wanted
to tell me about the passenger he “picked up” in Midland, Texas and
“dropped off” in Dallas, Texas. The passenger was former first lady,
Laura Bush. As the Captain, he was introduced to her as well as the
Secret Service agents. She told Flyboy she travels on Southwest often
because she has family in Midland and likes the convenience of the flights.

She took her seat with one of the Secret Service dudes and one agent
rode up in the cockpit, which is a rule when any current or former
“protected” passengers fly. His job is to keep a close eye on what
is going on in the cockpit I guess and it makes you wonder what
exactly he’s looking for, but rules are rules I guess. I’d be
more concerned with some of the goofballs that are riding OUTSIDE
of the cockpit…

4th quarter just started, still 17-16…

Today is not only Super Bowl Sunday, it’s Animal Planet’s annual
Puppy Bowl Sunday! I’m taping it to watch later. I know it sounds
ridiculous to watch 2 hours of puppies playing, but I can assure you
that once you start watching it, you can’t stop!

Mystic used to sit mesmerized watching the puppies and last year,
Moosie and Ginger watched their first Puppy Bowl. They actually
sat for quite a while until Moosie got bored, watched a puppy tackle
another puppy, and went over and grabbed Ginger’s collar to make
her play. After Ginger stopped choking, she and Moosie went outside
and ran all over the place…

New Orleans 24-Indy 17, 5 minutes left…

Speaking of Ginger, after watching her diligently for over two months
to make sure her shoulder would heal, and still watching her closely
so she doesn’t go through the dog door, I believe she will be just
fine now. How do I know this?

This morning, it was lightly raining and the two pooches went outside
to make sure they got their feet wet enough to mess up my floors. I
was doing something in the kitchen when I heard, “it”. “It” is the
sound that comes from two Great Danes running at full speed in the back
yard and the sound of rocks flying every which way, occasionally hitting
patio furniture, walls, and…<cringe>, windows…

I looked out there and for the first time in almost three months, Ginger
was running at full speed with the graceful stride she had before she
got injured. As much as I hated seeing them out in the rain because of
the mess they would bring in with them, I was thrilled to see Ginger
not only running at full speed, but not limping when she came in. I will
still keep an eye on her to make sure she is OK for the next day or so…

31-17 New Orleans…

I hope everyone living in the East is Ok after the “mother of snowstorms”
hit over the weekend. With Flypup living in Baltimore, I was worried
about him and when he called me to tell me he had to drive to Newark
and stay there for 3 days to taxi planes while snow equipment cleared
the runways and “lots”, I continued to worry. Baltimore got hammered,
as did Washington and parts of New Jersey. As luck would have it, Newark
got an inch or two and he was safe and sound in a hotel while parts of
Baltimore was without power and under 28 inches of snow. He left Newark
this afternoon and is back in Baltimore. Luckily, his place has power…

I guess that about does it for the “bits and pieces”. That’s why the
column is called, “Anything Goes”. Ya nevah know what is gonna show up
in your mailbox. :-)

And before I go, congratulations to the New Orleans Saints. Even though
I was rooting for Peyton Manning and his Colts, the Saints not only
played championship football during the Super Bowl, but all season long!
