Greetings…
Flyboy came back from Dallas and was home long enough to empty his
suitcase and sleep in his own bed one night before he had to head
back out…
No, it doesn’t frazzle me as I’m used to it, but it does make it
hard to make any real plans ahead of time. Everytime we try to make
definite plans, something comes up, namely…work…
Although he does have a month to month schedule that, in a perfect
world, would be good enough to plan around, that schedule has a 50/50
chance of changing somewhere along the way…
I always tell people that the best time to see a sparkling clean
house would be the days Flyboy is NOT home. It’s not that my house
isn’t clean when he is home, it’s that my priorities change when
he’s home. Most of the things that still need to be done will wait
until he’s not home and I have found that the time he’s away doesn’t
seem that long when I keep busy, which I do…
The divorce rate among pilots is extremely high, maybe higher than
the norm, and it’s really very easy to understand if you happen to
have kids growing up while dad is away. If you think kids pull things
when their dad is gone to work for the day, multiply it by 10 when
dad is away for days and mom is left to deal with it all on a daily
basis…
Trust me, I speak from experience. Even though we didn’t have children
together, I did have his three kids move in with us six months after
we got married. Oh the fun and games we had!!!
Of course, that isn’t the only reason their is a high rate of divorce
among pilots. Infidelity on the part of one or the other, or both is
another major reason. Pilot on the road, flight attendants, the belief
that being far away from home gives them a cover when in fact, they
are caught on a regular basis…
The older pilot goes through a mid-life crisis and is soothed by the
younger flight attendants who pay quite a bit of attention to the
aging pilot for many reasons, usually financial reasons and I base
this on the amount of pilots I have personally met who are in their
mid fifties and older and married for the second, or third or more,
and now have a “new” family complete with children under the age of
five. I know a pilot who is on his third wife and has three sets of
kids ranging in age from 2 years old to late twenties…
The old adage, “there’s no fool like an old fool” really fits in most
of these cases…
The spouse at home can get into trouble and does by being lonely,
overwhelmed by having to take care of everything at home while the pilot
is gone and a feeling of being unappreciated can drive them to look for
attention elsewhere…
You might wonder how I can even talk about this given I’m married to
a pilot. Hey, facts are facts and when it comes to this profession, the
facts speak loud and clear on a daily basis…
So, how can I “look” at all of you and tell you I’m not ever worried,
paranoid, suspicious, or different than some of the cases I mentioned?
It’s simple and the truth of the matter is, yes, in the beginning of
our marriage I worried based on knowing what I know about pilots and the
whole industry as a whole, but I didn’t worry enough to create things that
weren’t there, and the biggest reason I can say I feel as secure as any
woman is really able to feel?
The pilot I’m married to, no, make that…”the man I’m married to”…
If and when trust becomes something that can’t be given freely between a
couple, then neither one needs an excuse to go outside the relationship.
they will already form any and every justification in their head to do
whatever they are going to do. Inevitably, there is nothing one can do
to prevent infidelity, that’s a personal decision that is made by the
cheater, pure and simple…
You may wonder why I write about infidelity from time to time. It’s really
a very simple answer. Since the days of writing Sybil Sez, my advice column,
through my years of writing Looking Good, to this column, I have received
hundreds of thousands of emails and believe it or not, infidelity is a
topic or question in probably 75 % of those emails. YES, even from a beauty
column…
In this age of the Internet, the topic is a hot one and as we “speak”, I’m
sitting on one email from one of our readers who wants an opinion on
something going on in their life right now. I have been given permission to
share it with you to get your opinions as long as I change the names to
protect the innocent, (and guilty)…
I kind of miss the old Sybil days and may share this with you in the very
near future. One, for your help, two, because it’s relevant, and three…
I am always looking for something to write about when my brain goes into
that blank void known as “brain fart”…
Have a great weekend everyone!
